Elephant seal travels 18,000 miles

Elephant seal travels 18,000
ScienceDaily (Dec. 13, 2011) — A team of WCS conservationists has reported that a young male elephant seal tracked for the past year swam an astonishing 18,000 miles -- the equivalent of New York to Sydney, Australia -- and back again. WCS tracked the male seal, milesnicknamed Jackson, from December 2010, to November 2011, after tagging him on a beach in Admiralty Sound in Tierra del Fuego, Chile. Conservationists fitted Jackson with a small satellite transmitter that recorded the locations where he surfaced to breathe.
After being tagged, Jackson swam 1,000 miles north, 400 miles west, and 100 miles south. All the while, he meandered though fjords and ventured past the continental shelf as he foraged for fish and squid.
Elephant seals are potential indicators of ocean health and may show how climate change influences the distribution of prey species in Patagonia's rich marine ecosystem. To protect this vast region, conservationists need to know how wildlife uses it throughout the year.
"Jackson's travels provide a roadmap of how elephant seals use the Patagonian Coast and its associated seas," said Caleb McClennen, WCS Director for Global Marine Programs. "This information is vital to improving ocean management in the region, helping establish protected areas in the right places, and ensuring fisheries are managed sustainably without harming vulnerable marine species like the southern elephant seal."
The information WCS gathers will serve as a foundation for a new model of private-public, terrestrial-marine conservation of the Admiralty Sound, Karukinka Natural Park (a WCS private protected area), and Alberto de Agostini National Park. It will help build a broader vision for bolstering conservation efforts across the Patagonian Sea and coast.
WCS reports that Jackson has returned to Admiralty Sound, the site of the original tagging. Each year, elephant seals haul ashore in colonies to molt and find mates. The satellite transmitter is expected to work until early next year, when it will eventually fall off.
WCS has tracked more than 60 elephant seals via satellite on the Atlantic side of the Southern Cone since the early 1990s, but Jackson is the first to be tagged from the Pacific side.
Elephant seals are among the largest pinnipeds in the world, reaching weights of up to 7,500 pounds and lengths of 20 feet

Notorious B.I.G.

Christopher George Latore Wallace (May 21, 1972 - March 9, 1997), best known as The Notorious B.I.G., was an American rapper. He was also known as Biggie Smalls (after a character in the 1975 film Let's Do It Again), Big Poppa, and The Black Frank White (after the main character of the 1990 film King of New York).

Wallace was raised in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. When Wallace released his debut album Ready to Die in 1994, he became a central figure in the East Coast hip-hop scene and increased New York's visibility at a time when West Coast artists were more common in the mainstream. The following year, Wallace led his childhood friends to chart success through his protégé group, Junior M.A.F.I.A. While recording his second album, Wallace was heavily involved in the East Coast/West Coast hip-hop feud, dominating the scene at the time.

On March 9, 1997, Wallace was killed by an unknown assailant in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles. His double-disc set Life After Death, released 15 days later, hit #1 on the U.S. album charts and was certified Diamond in 2000 (one of the few hip hop albums to receive this certification).Wallace was noted for his "loose, easy flow",dark semi-autobiographical lyrics and storytelling abilities. Since his death, a further two albums have been released. MTV ranked him at #3 on their list of The Greatest MCs (Rappers) of All Time.He has certified sales of 17 million units in the United States.
To me his one of those guys who took the music industry by storm just by rapping it over.
LOVE YOU WALLACE.........YOU WILL ALWAYS LIVE IN OUR HEARTS THROUGH YOUR MUSIC.

WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY AT ITS BEST

Wildlife photography is regarded as being one of the most challenging forms of photography. It involves a thorough understanding of the behavior of animals and in addition to it, one needs to have sound technical skills, such as being able to expose in the right manner. Its all about being in the right place at the right time.
Surprisingly enough, photographing some species may require stalking skills or the use of a camouflage as well. Whilst wildlife photographs can be taken using basic equipment, successful photography of some types of wildlife requires specialist equipment, such as macro lenses for insects, long focal length lenses for birds
In this post, I have showcased some of the most breathtaking close up photography of animals during their aggressive mood or when they are about to make their kill. We have to commend the photographers for their patience and the extraordinary exhibition of valor to take such photographs and sharing it with us.

The secret of great relationships

The Truth is,
Everyone is gonna hurt you.Its upto you to decide who is worth it.

wildlife photography

Wildlife photography is devoted to capturing interesting animals in action, such as eating, fighting, or in flight. Although usually shot in the wild, game farms are also a frequent location for wildlife photography.
The techniques of wildlife photography differ greatly from those used in landscape photography. For example, in wildlife photography wide apertures are used to achieve a fast shutter speed, freeze the subject's motion, and blur the backgrounds, while landscape photographers prefer small apertures. Wildlife is also usually shot with long telephoto lenses from a great distance; the use of such telephoto lenses frequently necessitates the use of a tripod (since the longer the lens, the harder it is to handhold). Many wildlife photographers use blinds [1] or camouflage.
I personally believe that the ethics behind wildlife or nature photography is its conservation.
I believe that by clicking the nature in its utmost beauty, the various nature photographers want to present before the world the irresistible call of the wild and through this they want to promote the conservation of wildlife and nature. For all i know,i work towards this purpose and i want as many of you as possible to join me.
